SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - As the sun descended and the winds blew louder, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team fell to the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino, 3-2, in a Friday afternoon showdown.

The Broncos fall to 9-6-2 overall and 8-5-2 in conference play, and they will play at UC San Diego in their regular season finale on Sunday at noon.

With the loss, the Broncos will need Sonoma State (9-5-3, 8-4-3 CCAA) to either lose or tie on Sunday to keep their postseason hopes alive.

In the 86th minute, freshman forward Oscar Flores, fielding an assist from junior forward Derek Taddei, put the ball into the right side of the net to give the Coyotes the go-ahead and game-winning 3-2 goal. Flores' goal and Taddei's assist were the second ones in those respective categories in both the game and the season.

In the second half, the Broncos had several breakaway opportunities but were unable to produce a goal out of any of them. But down 2-1 at the 82:20 mark, senior forward Luis Gonzalez scored his 14th goal of the season and his second of the game on a breakaway that drifted past junior goalkeeper Tanner Olinger's grasp to tie the contest, 2-2. Junior midfielder Abraham Gomez got his first assist of the season.

On a penalty kick at the 66:36 mark, sophomore defender Corey Hostetter gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead on a goal, which snuck under sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Todd's dive. It was Hostetter's second goal on the season.

While CPP took a while to get going in the second half, the Broncos did not waste any time in the opening half. Gonzalez tipped the ball into the right side of an open goal in just the third minute of the game for his 13th goal of the year. Gonzalez received the pass from senior midfielder Nicolas Jimenez, who was credited with his third assist for the season.

Late in the half though, the Coyotes struck back. Taddei sent the ball over to Flores who equalized the game, 1-1, in the 38th minute.

Todd fell to 3-4-2 on the year with the loss while Olinger improved to 6-8-2. Despite losing the game, the Broncos outshot the Coyotes, 14-13, and had six saves to the Coyotes' four.

The Coyotes (6-9-2, 4-9-2 CCAA) will face the San Francisco State Gators (5-10-2, at home on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
