HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday to Cal State East Bay in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

The Broncos take a 1-1 mark for the week back to Pomona, after CPP defeated Cal State Monterey Bay Friday before Saturday's result in Hayward. Senior Courtney Alberi continues to shine on the attack for the Broncos, as she recorded her third-straight match of double digit kills Saturday with 14. The Castaic, Calif., native also added a team-high four blocks.

CPP falls under .500 overall at 11-12 while holding a conference mark of 8-10. The Pioneers stand at 14-8 overall and 9-8 through CCAA play.

Despite getting help Saturday in the form of 11 service errors by the host CSUEB squad, CPP couldn't overcome a lackluster hitting percentage of .196 on the evening. The Broncos played well defensively, collecting 69 digs to the Pioneers' 63.

The first game proved to be exciting as the two squads fought to seven tie scores. The Pioneers ended up pulling away for a 25-20 win though, getting four kills each from Kitona Offord and Nikki Long in that frame.

The Broncos showed resiliency in the second game, maintaining a high level of play while battling through three lead changes. Jessica Doerner and Alberi starred for CPP during the frame, particularly in the middle portion.

After a Broncos' service error allowed the Pioneers to cut the visitor's margin to 15-11, CPP rallied for three-straight points that led to a CSUEB timeout. During that short spurt, Doerner delivered two kills and capped it off with a combined block with Alberi. Jamie Kidd provided the decisive kill for the Broncos, who captured the 25-15 result to bring the teams even heading into intermission.

The closely-contest nature of the match continued in the third game and at one point, CSUEB held a 22-19 advantage. CPP bounced back with three-straight points, including two from Taylr Kreutziger kills. Nonetheless, the Pioneers rallied for the final three points of the game behind two kills by Katie Allen.

The Broncos appeared in a good position to force a fifth game when they jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the fourth. An 11-0 run from CSUEB stole away that momentum though and the Pioneers ultimately wrapped up a 25-18 result to take the 3-1 victory.

Up next, the Broncos will host Cal State L.A. on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match at Kellogg Gym. Senior Night will be held on Friday with CPP challenging Cal State Dominguez Hills.
