SEASIDE, Calif. - The first 66 minutes of Friday's men's match between Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay passed without a goal. The offenses found their rhythm in the later stages though, as the Broncos took a 2-0 lead and held off the Otters in a wild 4-2 win with all six scores arriving in the final 24 minutes of regulation.

The victory keeps CPP in a tie for the best record in the conference, at 6-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated Humboldt State Friday, 2-1, to pull even with the Broncos atop the South Division standings.

The Otters of CSUMB drop to 4-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in CCAA action. Friday's loss was the first for the program at home in 2011.

Jonathan Enns, a senior forward from Fresno, Calif., contributed another career performance against the Otters Friday. In last  year's meeting with CSUMB at Kellogg Field, Enns knocked in two scores to lead CPP to a 3-0 win. On Friday in Seaside, he repeated that output with another two goals to raise his career total to nine.

"Enns really came through with a big performance today," Broncos' head coach Lance Thompson said. "This isn't an easy place to play and Jonathan grinded it out, finishing strong for those two goals."

The teams' attacks started slow, with the squads combining for 17 shots but zero goals through the first 66 minutes of play. The Broncos' Juan Mejia, one of the best passers in the CCAA with four assists, recorded his first score of 2011 on a free kick Friday at the 66:28 mark.

That opened the floodgates, as CPP extended its lead to 2-0 when Fabian Perez received a pass from Luis Gonzalez in the 70th minute and sent a shot into the net after the two-on-one counter against the Otters' defense.

The host CSUMB squad didn't go away though, as the Otters got on the board at the 76:42 mark when Max Brixey knocked in a score past Broncos' goalkeeper Kris Minton from the middle of the box.

Less than three minutes later, the CPP attack responded with another goal. Breaking through the center and receiving a long through ball from Gonzalez off a counter, Enns put one past CSUMB netminder Corey Calder to bring the margin to 3-1 in the Broncos' favor.

Continuing the late scoring spree, the Otters found the net in the 85th minute with a score from Servando Perez bringing the CPP lead back to one goal at 3-2. After a couple of yellow cards late when the intensity of the action continued to rise, Enns tacked on an insurance score with 22 seconds remaining in the match to give the Broncos some breathing room. Sam Morales earned the assist on that final goal.

First-place CPP returns to Kellogg Field Sunday to host San Francisco State at 11:30 a.m. The Gators, 3-4-1 in CCAA play, challenge Cal State East Bay Friday in Hayward at 7 p.m.
