POMONA, Calif. - As the Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's basketball teams get set for their respective season openers this week, one knowledgegable fan is preparing to become the most audible member of the Broncos' gameday staff.
Brandon Marcus will serve as the commentator for the live coverage of the Broncos' home basketball games during the 2011-12 season, CPP sports information director
Ivan Alber announced Wednesday. Marcus will also provide audio commentary for select road dates in Southern California as well.
Marcus earned his broadcast journalism degree from USC in 2010 after providing play-by-play for USCTrojans.com through his time as a student. More recently, he excelled as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Orem Owlz, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim rookie ball affiliate.
"It is an honor to be named the broadcaster for Cal Poly Pomona," Marcus said. "The basketball program is one of the best in Division II. Coach
Greg Kamansky has done an incredible job with the men's program, and Coach
Danelle Bishop only took one year to lead her to team to the West Region title. I can't wait to get behind the mic and watch some exciting Bronco basketball."
Saturday's 3 p.m. men's basketball game at Kellogg Gym between Cal Poly Pomona and Notre Dame de Namur will be Marcus' debut, with the commentary and video stream provided online at
www.broncoathletics.com/live.
Not only did Marcus gain basketball experience while broadcasting the Trojans' games but he also performed play-by-play of Los Angeles Clippers games on a closed circuit feed with the purpose of training former Clippers' players to become analysts. That time with the Clippers came during the 2010-11 NBA season.
