Bronco Holiday Spirit Brings "Turkeys for Wishes"

POMONA, Calif. - Not only do the holidays bring families together, they also bring about opportunities for the Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes to exhibit teamwork in giving back to the local community.

Leading up to the Thanksgiving break, the Broncos raised $1,705 in one week as part of the "Turkeys for Wishes" event. All of the funds go directly to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the premier wish-granting organization for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Organized by the Bronco Athletic Association (BAA), "Turkeys for Wishes" inspired involvement from all of the CPP student-athletes. Each team donated a turkey to the prize pool and raffle tickets were sold around campus and within the community. The raffle winners had the choice of taking their prize turkey or allowing BAA to donate it to a local food bank.

"It was definitely great seeing all the athletes come together to support Make-a-Wish," said Kristin Mihara, BAA Social Media Co-Director and member of the Broncos' women's soccer team. "We all play on different teams but together we represent Cal Poly Pomona. It was a great opportunity for all the teams to raise money to support a charity that can make dreams come true for others that are less fortunate than we are."

This marked the first year that the Broncos organized the "Turkey for Wishes" fundraiser but considering its tremendous success, fans and supporters of CPP athletics should look forward to another edition in 2012.
