WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona guard
Ariel Marsh was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) women's basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 12 through Dec. 18, conference officials announced on Monday.
Marsh, a sophomore from Chino Hills, Calif., scored a season-high 31 points on 12-for-14 shooting, including 7-of-8 from behind the three-point arc, in 27 minutes to help the 11th-ranked Broncos post an 82-69 victory over defending NAIA national champion Azusa Pacific on Thursday.
The mark of seven treys is just one shy of the program record for three-pointers made in a game, as Elizabeth Edmond fired in eight during a 1997 game. Marsh couldn't miss Thursday, as she started out 8-for-8 from the floor. She hit five of her seven treys in the first half, helping CPP take a 45-27 advantage into intermission.
Marsh's performance on Thursday puts her field goal percentage (66.7 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (54.5 percent) in the top five nationally for NCAA Division II.
Marsh is the second Broncos' player to receive the conference Player of the Week honor, following
Sarah Semenero's selection for the week of Nov. 14 through Nov. 20.
Cal Poly Pomona will next be in action on Dec. 29 when it returns to CCAA play at Cal State San Bernardino. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
