POMONA, Calif. – Matt Rosser scored a career-high 16 points and team defense helped the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team defeat Chico State Saturday, 64-50, at Kellogg Gym.

The Broncos trailed 27-26 at halftime but held the Wildcats scoreless through the first five minutes of the second half and outscored CSUC 15-5 in the final stages to secure the 14-point victory. The win pushes the Broncos' marks to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and hands the visitors' their first loss of the 2011-12 campaign.

CPP outrebounded the Wildcats 40-36 with 14 of the Broncos' rebounds coming from senior forward Tyquan Brown.

Rosser went 8-for-10 from the floor while Mitchel Anderson and Dwayne Fells joined him in double figures with point totals of 11 and 10 respectively.

The visiting CSUC squad staked an early 18-12 advantage after the teams traded leads early on. The Broncos rallied back though, getting back-to-back buckets from Fells to tie the score 18-18 at the 9:26 mark.

CPP led by four points with four minutes remaining in the half but the Wildcats countered, as Damario Sims completed a three-point play to give CSUC the 27-26 edge going into the break.

Bryce Brady shifted the momentum into the Broncos' favor though by sinking a three-pointer on the first possession of the second half. That started a modest 7-0 CPP run, which was capped off by two layups from Rosser.

As a team, the Broncos shot 50 percent from the field while the defense held the Wildcats to a 30.2 field goal percentage during Saturday's contest.

Up next for CPP will be a non-conference matchup next Saturday at The Master's College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
