SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. –
The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team dropped a 64-55 road decision at Cal State San Bernardino Tuesday, despite a 17-point performance from senior Kevin Menner.

The visitors' next leading scorers were Tobias Jahn with nine points on 4-for-10 shooting and Dwayne Fells with eight points and five rebounds.

The Broncos fall to 14-10 overall and 11-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Coyotes improve to 15-9 overall and 13-7 through league action.

While the two teams traded points through the game's first two minutes, a three-pointer from Mark Rutledge put the Broncos ahead 7-6 at the 17:48 mark. That CPP lead held up for the remainder of the half behind strong passing and a tightening defense, with the margin going as high as eight after a Kevin Menner jumper with 4:55 to play in the period.

CSUSB's Robbie Robinson hit a trey at 3:42 to cut the margin to three points and the Coyotes had a chance to cut it even smaller but a block by Matt Rosser to end the half stopped the host's opportunity.

Moving into the second half, the CSUSB attack came alive with a 10-0 run to restart action. Despite facing that 38-31 deficit, the Broncos didn't back down. CPP went on its own 7-0 spurt through the midway point of the period, with that span featuring key layups from Menner and Rosser.

As the contest progressed into its final stages, the Coyotes continued to get to the free throw line and hit their attempts. Leading the way in that category for CSUSB was Theron Laudermill, who went 7-for-8 from the strike.

Jahn helped CPP through a small scoring drought, dropping in back-to-back buckets around the five-minute mark. The Broncos continued to push the Coyotes' edge down to one but for much of the half, couldn't get any closer.

CSUSB ended up outrebounding CPP, 34-28, largely because of Kwame Alexander's contributions of 14 rebounds to go along with 17 points. While the squads shot almost identical percentages in two-point and three-point range, the Coyotes went 79.2-percent from the line while the Broncos shot just 47.1-percent there.

Up next, CPP will host UC San Diego Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as part of Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The following day, the Broncos challenge Cal State East Bay at Kellogg Gym on Senior Night.
