POMONA, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball topped Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday, 66-43, as Reyana Colson nearly collected a triple-double for the Broncos. That win paired with a Cal State Monterey Bay loss at UC San Diego moves CPP into sole possession of the conference's first place.

The Broncos improve to 17-2 overall and 14-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. They are now a half-game above the Otters of CSUMB in the league standings. The loss to the Toros drops them to 3-17 overall and 3-13 through CCAA action.

CPP forced the visiting CSUDH squad to commit 37 turnovers, the most for a Broncos' opponent since the 2004-05 campaign. Colson tallied a career-high eight steals, while adding 18 points and eight assists. Rosslyn Beard also set a new career benchmark in steals with five and contributed four points, four rebounds and four assists as well.

Both teams struggled out of the gates, with CPP holding a narrow 26-19 advantage at halftime. The Broncos shot just 9-for-27 from the field during the opening 20 minutes.

The host squad never trailed though and the CPP offense came alive in the second half. Megan Ford posted eight of her nine points during the closing period and finished with five rebounds and three steals. La'kenya Simon West found her touch early from three-point range and ended the night with three treys en route to a 10-point performance.

The largest lead of the evening for the Broncos came with 2:18 to play in regulation, when Jennifer Bryant sunk a three-pointer. CPP closed the contest with a 38.9-percent mark from the field while going 19-for-31 from the free throw line.

Two CSUDH players posted double-digit point totals, with Sherrie Hughes collecting 13 and Tiffany Smith registering 10 of her own.

The Broncos continue their homestand next weekend with contests against Humboldt State and Sonoma State. CPP squares off against the HSU Lumberjacks at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
