POMONA, Calif. – Success in the regular season leads to travel for tournaments and championships, which results in more time away from the classroom. Through all of those achievements and subsequent hurdles, the Cal Poly Pomona student-athletes continued to excel academically and combined for a grade point average of 2.97 in the winter quarter.

Coupled with the Broncos' fall quarter GPA of 3.04, the CPP student-athletes have gotten off to a strong start in the 2010-11 school year. Six of the Broncos' 10 intercollegiate teams tallied a GPA above 3.00 for the winter quarter.

“It's a credit to our coaches and student-athletes, who understand the value of academics,” CPP academic counselor Scott Tsuji said. “Our student-athletes work hard in the classroom and it shows. We also have coaches that hold high academic expectations and know what resources are out there with study hall and tutoring.”

Of the 181 Bronco student-athletes, 102 recorded a GPA above the 3.00 mark. The women's cross country team recorded the highest combined winter-quarter GPA of all the CPP squads at 3.37. There were nine student-athletes that posted a perfect 4.00 GPA during the winter quarter.

The Broncos' women's basketball team, featuring Academic All-American Reyana Colson along with Academic All-District honorees Megan Ford and Rosslyn Beard, totaled a stellar 3.15 GPA across the winter quarter while capturing CCAA and West Region titles on the court.

At the conclusion of the 2009-10 school year, CPP placed 40 student-athletes on the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Team. That mark ranked fourth among the conference institutions. To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 36 quarter units.
