FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational held on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. One of the top highlights for the Broncos came from
Lance Walkington, who tied the school's javelin record with a 207-7 mark to take first place in that event.
That distance earned a provisional national qualifier (PNQ) for Walkington, a senior transfer from UC Davis. Teammates
Matt Boudreau (400-meter hurdles) and
Carter Griffin (200-meter dash) also earned PNQs with respective times of 53.63 and 21.28.
"We had some impressive times and marks today," CPP head coach Troy Johnson said. "I was really pleased with how our team performed."
The 4x100 relay team of Boudreau,
Corey Arnold, Griffin and Jake Deavers placed fourth with a time of 41.80, narrowly missing the provisional benchmark of 41.35. Griffin also shined in the 100-meter dash, taking second with a 10.69 mark.
Among the distance events,
Ryan Carrell turned in the top time for CPP in the 5,000-meter race, crossing the line in 14:44.81.
