POMONA, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team captured a 9-3 victory Sunday to wrap up a series win against Cal State East Bay.

The Broncos got a strong pitching performance from left-handed starter Ryan Dunn, who finished with 5.2 innings while allowing just one run. At the plate, Travis Taijeron collected three runs batted in and Jenzen Torres continued his torrid hitting with a solo homerun.

CSUEB starter Bryce Miller also pitched well but the Pioneers' defense struggled, committing two errors that led to four unearned runs. The first of those scores came in the first inning when a sacrifice fly from Jordan Whitman scored Ryan Goodman, who had reached base earlier on an error.

The CPP attack tacked on another run in the fourth, thanks to Torres' blast over the leftfield fence. The Broncos then stretched their lead to 5-0 in the fifth after a three-run double by Taijeron.

"We all feel confident at the plate," Torres said. "We're just working good counts, making the pitcher work and hitting their mistakes."

Through the four-game series with the Pioneers, Torres went 6-for-13 at the plate with four walks. The junior catcher totaled four homeruns and 13 runs batted in to lead the Broncos' offense.

The visiting CSUEB squad managed to plate a score in the sixth and another in the eighth, bringing the game into reach at a 5-2 margin. CPP shut the door on the Pioneers' chances though, tallying another four runs in the bottom half of the eighth.

Mike Santora and Taijeron led off the at-bat with walks, before Whitman put down a bunt single. After Torres drew a base on balls to score a run, Chris Miller ripped a double down the leftfield line to score two of his teammates. The final score of that inning for the Broncos came when Stephen Gonzalez earned an infield single that brought in Miller.

Michael Parker threw the final 3.1 innings of the contest, holding the Pioneers to four hits while striking out four batters. Parked earned his first save of the season for his efforts.

Up next, the Broncos will host Grand Canyon on Tuesday in a non-conference contest. First pitch at Scolinos Field is set for 2 p.m.
