TURLOCK, Calif. - Jacob Deavers of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team raced a personal-best 52.26 Thursday night in the 400-meter hurdles prelims, enough to earn a spot in the Saturday final at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Deavers finished second in his heat, picking up pace toward the finish line and avoiding a collision with a runner that had fallen over the last hurdle.
"I felt pretty good out there," Deavers said. "I had a little stumble over the second hurdle but pulled it together and kept my composure through that hard finish."
The junior from Lake Elsinore, Calif., enters Saturday's 8 p.m. final with the sixth-best time for the eight-person field.
Also in action for the Broncos Thursday was
Tramieka Thomas of the CPP women's track and field squad. She posted a 16th-place finish in the long jump, registering a top mark of 17-7.5.
On Friday, Thomas and
Heather Corder will compete in the 100-meter hurdles at approximately 7:10 p.m. To watch live video and follow the live results for the championships in Turlock, click on the links at the top of this article.
