POMONA, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team continued its 2011 dominance of Cal State L.A. Friday, defeating the Golden Eagles at Scolinos Field, 12-0.

Right-handed starter Kevin Bosson threw 7.2 strong innings, scattering four hits and striking out five hitters. It marked Bosson's ninth win of the season, ranking him second in that statistic among conference pitchers.

Friday's result was victory No. 30 of the season for CPP. The Broncos' current winning percentage of .638 overall is the highest in program history since 1983. CPP will look to raise it even higher as the team travels to the CSULA campus for a doubleheader Saturday that will wrap up the regular season.

The Broncos' playoff hopes remain alive, with CPP holding fourth place at 22-16 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). In other league action Friday, UC San Diego defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 10-4, and Sonoma State topped Chico State, 7-1. The top four squads in the CCAA standings will advance to the conference tournament next week in Stockton, Calif.

Bosson got plenty of help from the CPP attack, as the hosts rallied for 13 hits. Leading the way was senior Travis Taijeron, who went 3-for-5 with his conference-leading 14th homerun of the season.

That shot from Taijeron capped off a three-run rally in the bottom of the first for the Broncos. It was preceded by an one-run triple from freshman Ryan Goodman.

CPP added two more scores in the third, when Stephen Gonzalez lined a double down the leftfield line to bring in Tyson Edwards and Chris Miller. Those three frames marked the end of the day for CSULA starter Kamakani Usui.

The pitching changes only temporarily stopped the Broncos' stellar offensive showing, with CPP tacking on two runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Jenzen Torres and Edwards.

The biggest inning for the Broncos' offense was the seventh, as a lack of control from the Golden Eagles' pitchers helped CPP tack on five scores. The Broncos batted around and everyone got in the action, as key hits in that rally came from Taijeron, Jordan Whitman and Joseph Eusebio.

Three CPP players finished with multi-hit games - Taijeron, Whitman (2-for-4) and Gonzalez (2-for-3). Two senior relievers helped the Broncos close out the win, with John Pollock and Scott Sibley combining for 1.1 scoreless innings.

Goodman and Edwards totaled three walks each, as both players reached base in four of their five plate appearances. Edwards' single in the sixth inning stretched his hit streak to 10 games.

The two squads return to action Saturday with the doubleheader at CSULA. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
