ABCA/Rawlings All-American Teams
POMONA, Calif. - Without a doubt,
Travis Taijeron is an All-American.
After a record-setting year from the Cal Poly Pomona baseball program, the awards continue to roll in for the Broncos' top hitter of 2011.
Taijeron received his third and final NCAA Division II All-American mention Friday, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) officials announced.
A senior centerfielder from San Diego, Calif., Taijeron helped the Broncos reached the NCAA D-II West Region title game on May 22. Earlier in the month, he received California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and swept the West Region Player of the Year honors. One week ago, Taijeron received his first All-American mention in the Daktronics announcement. Earlier this week, he earned his second mention through the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBW
This marks the 26th time in program history that a CPP baseball student-athlete has received All-American mention.
"His performance at the plate and in the field was obviously a huge part of our success this season," Broncos' head coach
Randy Betten said. "This All-American honor is definitely well deserved and we're extremely proud of what he's accomplished."
In 2011, Taijeron matched the program single-season records for homeruns with 16 and walks with 50. Through his two years at CPP, he ranks second all-time among Bronco hitters with 32 career homeruns.
Among the CCAA statistical leaders, Taijeron ranks first in almost every key category - batting average (.392), slugging percentage (.744), on-base percentage (.534), runs scored (59), homeruns (16), total bases (148), walks (50) and fielding percentage (1.000).
The teams were selected during the NCAA Division II Championships by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-American Committee. In the top honors, Mount Olive's Carter Capps earned ABCA/Rawlings National Player of the Year.
