POMONA, Calif. - In front of a passionate crowd of 1,183, the 20th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team rallied for a huge second half to secure a 65-54 win over San Francisco State Tuesday.

The Broncos played inspired defense, as Tyquan Brown racked up four of the team's seven blocks. Mitchel Anderson led CPP in scoring with 17 points while also adding four steals.

The result improves the Broncos' records to 10-3 overall and 7-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

CPP led for much of the first half Tuesday, thanks to efficient shooting performances from Dwayne Fells and Anderson. Fells contributed five-straight points to start the contest.

The Gators rallied just before the half though, closing the period on an 8-2 run with Robbie Herndon capping SFSU's scoring on a three-pointer at the 00:41 mark. The halftime score settled at 29-28 in favor of the Gators.

The Broncos picked up their defensive intensity in the second half. Holding a slight 55-53 edge with 2:41 remaining in regulation, CPP rallied for a 10-1 run to close out the contest. Terrence Drisdom, who finished with a career-high five steals, used one of them at the 1:52 mark to convert a layup himself on the other end.

Drisdom grabbed another steal with 30 seconds left in the game and that led to a fastbreak dunk from Matt Rosser that brought the Broncos' faithful to their feet. Just two minutes after holding a two-point lead, CPP's advantage rose to double digits on Rosser's slam.

A late free throw from the Gators brought the final score to 65-54 but in the end, the Broncos held SFSU to zero field goals in the last four minutes and 12 seconds.

CPP finished with a shooting percentage of 47.8 while holding the Gators to a 38.9-percent rate from the floor. The Broncos forced 19 turnovers, including six each from SFSU starters Herndon and Nefi Perdomo.

For CPP, Fells and Brown joined Anderson in double-digit scoring with point totals of 14 and 11 respectively.

Up next for the Broncos will be a 7:30 p.m. matchup Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
