CARSON, Calif. – The 17th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team cruised to a 65-50 road win Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills, with
Megan Ford recording a game-high 17 points and
Ariel Marsh finding her rhythm once again from three-point range.
The Broncos improve to 12-3 overall and 8-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), as CPP remains in a three-team tie for third place in the conference standings.
Ford finished with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals. Marsh went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to 16 points. She also added a career-high three steals in her 20 minutes of action.
The Broncos jumped out to an 8-0 edge in Saturday's contest as Ford reeled off five of those points. The host CSUDH squad battled back to take an advantage of 11-10 at the 10:07 mark.
Trailing for a moment seemed to motivate CPP as the Broncos outscored the Toros 25-5 through the remainder of the period. Three of Marsh's treys came during that span while
Lisha Elsenbach and
Rosslyn Beard found their three-point rhythm as well to help CPP take a commanding 35-16 edge into the break.
Out of intermission, the Broncos stretched the gap as high as 24 points. The Toros then rallied for a 17-2 spurt between the 10:19 and 5:03 marks to get the lead into single digits at 52-43. The momentum for CSUDH didn't last long though as CPP finished strong, with help from Beard's 4-for-4 showing at the free throw line.
Through the 40 minutes of action, Beard totaled nine points, four assists, three rebounds and the one successful three-point field goal. Overall, the Broncos went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc.
Senior guard
Sarah Semenero totaled four of CPP's 15 steals, with the Broncos forcing 25 turnovers from the Toros.
Charlene Popoff also contributed a solid performance Friday, collecting six points and seven rebounds.
Up next for CPP will be a 5:30 p.m. matchup Saturday at Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles are tied with the Broncos in the standings after defeating San Francisco State Friday.
