ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Despite the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team leading the all-time series with Sonoma State, the Wolves' Den has gotten the best of the Broncos in recent history.
CPP suffered a 3-0 loss there Friday, falling 25-18, 25-20 and 25-15 to the host Seawolves. The result marked the seventh-straight loss at the Wolves' Den for the Broncos.
Competing on back-to-back nights during this Northern California trip, CPP will get a chance to bounce right back with a 7 p.m. road match at San Francisco State on Saturday.
The Broncos now hold marks of 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while SSU improves to 12-6 overall and 6-4 through league action after Friday's result.
CPP couldn't find its typical blocking profiency against the Seawolves, who hit .363 as a team. The Broncos finished with three total blocks but entered the weekend averaging nearly eight per match.
Leading the CPP offense Friday were
Lauren Jones,
Jessica Doerner and
Taylr Kreutziger. Those three players combined for 22 of the team's 38 kills and all three posted hitting percentages above .230.
Meanwhile, the Broncos couldn't stop SSU's Allyson Sather. The Seawolves' senior outside hitter registered 12 kills and committed just one attack error.
Katie Colin and
Nicoletta Stork split the setting duties for CPP on Friday, with Colin collecting 15 assists and Stork adding 14 of her own.
Kelly Bonja,
Erin Noriega and
Diana Lake all registered dig totals of 10 or more to contribute to the Broncos' defensive effort.
