TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team battled tough with another top North Division squad Sunday but a second-half score from Josue Barajas lifted the host Cal State Stanislaus team to a 2-1 victory.

The Broncos had their share of chances in the final 20 minutes of action. Warriors' goalkeeper Clint Long saved a CPP penalty kick opportunity and despite a red card being issued to Stanislaus at the 81:05 mark, the Broncos couldn't find the equalizer.

The result drops CPP's marks to 3-8-2 overall and 1-8-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Warriors hold a four-game winning streak at 8-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in league action.

Broncos' junior goalkeeper Andrew Todd made his third start of the season Sunday. CSUS broke through for the match's first score in the 21st minute when passes from Kyle Cadigan and Daniel Kuczynski led to a Jesse Horta goal from about five yards out.

Other than that score, the first half was evenly contested and the second period continued in that manner as well. The hard-fought nature of the match led to a number of cautions being issued. Seven cards were handed out through the 90 minutes, with five of those coming in the second half.

CPP senior midfielder Abraham Gomez notched his fifth goal of 2012 at the 60:24 mark. A foul on the Warriors led to a penalty kick chance for the Broncos and Gomez converted with a shot past the CSUS netminder.

About eight minutes later though, the Warriors got their lead back. A header across the box opened up a chance for Barajas, who lined a shot from about five yards away past Todd.

Less than two minutes after that score, CPP earned another PK opportunity. This time Long came up clutch for the Warriors, saving an attempt from Broncos' redshirt freshman Juso Ahmetspahic.

Even when playing shorthanded after the red card at 81:05, Stanislaus held the visitors without a shot through those final nine minutes to wrap up the 2-1 victory. In net for CPP, Todd finished with a season-high five saves.

Having completed this four-game road stretch, the Broncos will now return home to host Cal State East Bay Friday at 12:30 p.m.
