SAN FRANCISCO –  The theme of the weekend - quick starts on offense - continued Sunday as the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team scored twice in the first 10 minutes to collect a 2-0 road win at San Francisco State.

The victory stretches the Broncos' undefeated streak to nine games, matching the program record set previously when the 1990 team went 6-0-3 to cap off its season. It also keeps CPP in control of its postseason fate as the Broncos continue to hold second place in the conference's South Division. With two regular season games remaining, CPP has gone 7-4-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play to total 23 points. Currently, the Broncos rank fourth in the point standings behind Sonoma State (31), Cal State Stanislaus (30) and UC San Diego (29).

If the Broncos defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday, they'll secure a spot in the CCAA Tournament. CPP's regular season finale - "Senior Day" - will be Sunday with a home game against Cal State L.A., a squad that ranks fifth in the point standings at 18.

Having gone 2-0 this week, CPP could see some movement in the next NCAA regional poll to be released Oct. 24. In the first one announced this past Wednesday, the Broncos held the fifth spot.

The teams ranked above CPP experienced these results this week: No. 1 Sonoma State went 1-1-0, No. 2 UC San Diego went 1-1-0, No. 3 Seattle Pacific went 2-0-0 and No. 4 Montana State Billings went 1-1-0. On Nov. 5, the top six West Region squads will be announced as selections to advance into the NCAA Division II postseason.

In Sunday's match between the Broncos and Gators, CPP senior forward Angela Garcia got the visitors on the board with a goal at the 5:14 mark. The Broncos put together a series of five great passes to set up Garcia with ball in front of the goal. She finished with a shot past Gators' goalkeeper Annicia Jones to put CPP in front, 1-0.

Less than four minutes later, the Broncos used a corner kick opportunity to knock in an insurance score. Cindy Paez tapped the corner kick attempt to Veronica Ramos, who passed it directly back to Paez further out of the corner. Paez then sent a cross into the box for Megan Kisslan, who lifted a header past Jones to give the visitors a 2-0 edge. It marked the first career score for Kisslan, a freshman defender from Anaheim.

In the 13th minute, CPP came close to extending its lead to 3-0 but a penalty kick attempt from Paez was stopped by Jones. The Broncos' defense easily held up the 2-0 score though, holding SFSU to just four shots on goal through the 90 minutes. Kisslan, Kristin Mihara, Hannah Leu and Sarah Semenero all put in stellar performances on the back line while junior goalkeeper Sarah Rohman recorded four saves to post her 13th career shutout.

The Broncos will be playing under the lights Friday with a 7 p.m. home match against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros have won their last two matches, including a 1-0 victory over nationally-ranked Sonoma State on Friday.
