HAYWARD, Calif. – An acrobatic scoop shot from Micah Walker with four seconds left in regulation got a fortunate roll, lifting Cal State East Bay to its first-ever win over the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team Saturday.

The Walker game-winner pushed the Pioneers ahead 53-51 and a last-second attempt by Broncos' senior guard Sarah Semenero fell of the mark, sending the CSUEB fans home happy during the university's Homecoming Week.

CPP now stands at 15-7 overall and 11-7 through California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play as the Pioneers continue to battle for a playoff spot at 7-10 in league action. The Broncos hold fifth place in the conference standings. The top eight teams make the CCAA Tournament and the best four squads get to host a first-round game on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Senior center Megan Ford finished with a team-high 14 points, including an 8-for-8 showing at the line. Fellow fourth-year Charlene Popoff collected her second-straight double double Saturday with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Both teams got off to a strong start in terms of shooting but the offenses were held back by turnovers, with the Pioneers committing 14 in the first half while the Broncos totaled 10 in that span.

All but two of CPP's 31 points in the opening period came from the team's starters, a veteran mix of four seniors and one junior. The Broncos broke a 6-6 tie with an 8-0 run that included four points from Ford and then back-to-back jumpers by Rosslyn Beard and Jennifer Bryant.

CSUEB battled back though and took a one-point advantage on a couple different occasions, thanks to a 4-for-5 effort from beyond the arc in the first half. Pioneers' junior forward Lauren Lucchesi contributed two of those treys.

The squads encountered close to a three-minute scoring drought to end the period, as a Beard field goal at the 2:59 mark provided the final points of the half and put the Broncos back in front, 31-30.

The Pioneers came out strong in the second half, as a pair of free throws from Marlene MacMillan put CSUEB in front and a three-pointer from Cassie Coble extended the host's lead to four.

Although the Pioneers got the margin to five, the Broncos held CSUEB scoreless between the 10:34 and 6:56 marks to close the gap. The two teams continued to go back and forth, with a three-pointer by CPP freshman Mian Dingle tying the score at 47-47 with just under five minutes remaining.

After a technical whistled on the Pioneers gave Ford an extra chance at the free throw line, her two conversions moved the score to 51-51 going into the final minute. CSUEB grabbed a defensive rebound off a Semenero miss and then set up on the other end. A second-chance opportunity gave the Pioneers an extra shot to break the tie and Walker made it happen.

CPP will play its final four regular season games at home, starting with a Thursday 5:30 p.m. matchup against Sonoma State as part of "Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night."
