POMONA, Calif. - One day after putting up 10 runs, the bats of the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team fell silent Friday in a 6-1 loss to UC San Diego that evened the four-game series at one win apiece.

The Broncos and Tritons will complete the set with a doubleheader in La Jolla Saturday starting at 12 p.m. Both squads hold 3-3 records within the California Collegiate Athletic Assocation (CCAA).

UCSD right-handed starter Ryan Goodbrand delivered a stellar complete-game performance Friday, allowing just three hits while picking up four strikeouts in the nine-inning outing.

For the second-straight day, the Tritons jumped out to an early lead with runs in the first inning. UCSD collected two unearned scores as the second came off a single from Garrett Tuck for a run batted in.

The Broncos countered with a score in the bottom of the first when senior catcher Jenzen Torres launched his second homerun of the season. It ended up as the only run for CPP on the afternoon though, with Goodbrand settling in and retiring the final nine batters he faced.

The UCSD offense chased CPP left-handed starter Ryan Dunn out of the game after 4.1 innings. Dunn allowed just one earned run but gave up eight hits to the Tritons. Reliever Jake Reed finished the game for the Broncos, totaling 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs.

Leading the Tritons' attack Friday was Tuck, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Justin Rahn and Nick La Face also recorded multi-hit games with two hits each.

Aside from Torres, Mike Santora and Chris Curtis delivered with the two other hits for CPP through the afternoon of action.
