POMONA, Calif. - The 29th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona baseball team cruised to a 20-0 rout of Saint Martin's Friday in the 2012 season opener, a game rich with Bronco highlights.

Senior right-hander Geoff Broussard got the start, rolling through 5.1 perfect innings before finally allowing a hit. Fellow fourth-year Chris Miller scored a career-high four runs while also adding an opposite homer and four runs batted in.

The CPP attack totaled 16 hits on the afternoon and three other Broncos joined Miller with multi-hit games.

Preseason All-West Region selection Mike Santora went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, sophomore Joseph Eusebio collected a career-high three hits and Donald Walter put together a solid debut by reaching base in three of his four plate appearances.

The result moves the Broncos' record to 1-0 while dropping the visiting Saints to 0-1. The two teams will meet again Saturday at Scolinos Field for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

CPP got its first run Friday in the bottom of the second inning to break a scoreless tie. Eusebio sent a single into the outfield to score Walter, giving the Broncos their first run of 2012.

It didn't take long for CPP to get more though, as the hosts collected seven runs in the third inning. The first seven hitters of that frame reached base as Santora opened up the rally with a single.

Jordan Whitman and Miller came through with RBI singles and Walter followed later with a three-run double. With the Broncos batting around that inning, Santora stepped to the plate once again and doubled to give CPP an 8-0 edge early.

The relentless Bronco offense continued to tack on more runs in the fourth. Freshman catcher Brennen Salgado notched his first career hit in that inning, as he lined a triple down the rightfield line to score Eusebio and Walter. With two outs, Santora drove in another run to extend CPP's lead to 13-0.

Broussard had a perfect game going until the top of the sixth inning, when SMU catcher Chandler Tracy sent a single into left field. A senior right-hander from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Broussard totaled seven innings Friday while scattering three hits and striking out five.

The CPP parade of runs continued in the seventh, with pinch hitter Cole McMath starting the rally with a leadoff walk. Later in the inning, a walk by Garett Granato ended up allowing McMath to cross the plate. Then, freshman pinch hitter Nicholas Cooksey doubled in three more runs. In the next frame, Miller got the Broncos to the 20-run mark with an opposite field homerun that drove in three.
