LOS ANGELES – Three members of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team competed Friday night at the Occidental Distance Carnival and all three walked away with personal bests.
Senior
Jose Marquez led the way with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase out of 39 competitors. Marquez crossed the line in 9:29.14 while teammate
Brandon Haugen followed close behind at 9:57.16.
The time from Marquez fell just short of both the "B" provisional standard of 9:20.0 and the 10th-place spot in the Broncos' all-time record books that stands at 9:10.89.
The meet Friday night in Los Angeles also featured a mixed 10,000-meter run and senior
Clark Selters raced to a 20th-place time of 33:05.45 in that event. Selters also holds the team's top 5,000-meter mark so far in 2012 with a time of 15:41.13 that he recorded on March 3 at Cerritos College.
The Broncos' squads will return to action next Friday, March 23, at the Pasadena Games on the campus of Pasadena City College.
