AZUSA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered an 11-4 loss Tuesday at Azusa Pacific in non-conference play.

The game allowed both teams an chance to give reserve players opportunies on offense and send out a wide range of pitchers to the mound.

Chris Powell and Kyle McNutt shined in relief for the Broncos as the two combined for 2.2 scoreless innings. Powell threw a middle inning and struck out two batters while McNutt contributed the final 1.2 frames and did not allow a hit.

Freshman third baseman Nick Wagner helped CPP stage a one-out rally in the third inning when he drew a walk. He later scored on a single by senior Chris Curtis.

The Broncos added a score in the fourth when Nicholas Cooksey drove in Mike Philip with two outs. Philp initiated the rally with a one-out double.

Sophomore transfer Cole McMath earned the start in right field for CPP and collected his first career hit as a Bronco with a leadoff single in the top of the third.

Sammy Soyring and Brent Warren starred for the host APU squad as the totaled three hits apiece. The Cougars, who came in to the game ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, bumped their 2012 record to 34-8.

The Broncos will return to action on Friday with a 6 p.m. game at Cal State L.A. that marks the start of a four-game series. CPP holds marks of 26-15 overall and 18-14 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), remaining at the No. 5 spot with eight league games left in the regular season. The Broncos have won two-straight conference series and are 7-3 in the month of April.

CPP will host its final home games on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Golden Eagles of CSULA as part of "Senior Day." The pregame ceremony is set to start at 10:45 a.m.
