POMONA, Calif. - With dominant pitching and timely hitting, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team picked up a 5-0 victory Friday to extend its winning streak to three games.

It marks the longest Broncos' win streak since February and raises CPP's records to 21-12 overall and 14-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The visiting Gators fall to 12-17 overall and 9-13 through league action.

On the mound in game two for the Broncos was junior right-hander Kevin Bosson, who threw a complete-game shutout while racking up nine strikeouts. The Claremont native allowed seven hits and two walks but forced SFSU to strand six runners. It marked the 35th-career start for Bosson and the first nine-inning complete-game shutout during his time with the Broncos.

The CPP defense helped Bosson keep the shutout intact on two important occasions. Despite SFSU leftfielder Ivan Otsuka opening up the third inning with a leadoff single, Broncos' senior catcher Jenzen Torres erased the baserunner by catching Otsuka trying to steal second. In the eighth, junior centerfielder Jordan Whitman fielded a hit and then threw to Torres just in time for Otsuka to be tagged out at home while ending the Gators' rally.

The heart of the CPP lineup came through with key hits Friday as the No. 3 through No. 6 spots in the order contributed one run batted in apiece. The Broncos jumped on the scoreboard with a first-inning rally that started on a Donald Walter single. Later in the frame, Joseph Eusebio added an RBI single and then Chris Miller delivered a double to bring in Torres.

Walter spearheaded another rally in the third, knocking a leadoff double to left center to give the hosts a runner in scoring position. Torres promptly lined a single into center that allowed Walter to trot across home.

CPP put together yet another rally in the sixth as Miller and Whitman opened the frame with back-to-back hits. With two outs, senior third baseman Chris Curtis sent a single into the right-center gap to extend the Broncos' lead to 5-0.

SFSU right-hander Eric Watts suffered the loss to drop to 0-4 on the season. Watts pitched six innings while allowing nine hits an four earned runs. Reliever Jeff Clegg contributed two scoreless innings for the visitors to wrap up Friday's contest.

With one hit each, Mike Santora and Eusebio stretched their respective hitting streaks to eight games. CPP and the Gators will conclude their four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Scolinos Field starting at 11 a.m.
