POMONA, Calif. - With a four-win improvement between 2010 and 2011, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team is poised to push the benchmark of victories higher in the upcoming 2012 season.

Head coach Rosie Wegrich announced the schedule Wednesday and the Broncos will play their first official match on Friday, Aug. 31. As a participant at the Grand Canyon Invitational held in Phoenix, Ariz., CPP will have four matches in that opening weekend.

Then, the Broncos return home to co-host a tournament with Cal State L.A. CPP's 2012 home opener at Kellogg Gym will be against Azusa Pacific on Sept. 6. The tournament features five matches at Kellogg Gym and six contests at CSULA's Eagles' Nest. The complete tournament schedule can be accesssed in a PDF here.

CPP starts the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) portion of the schedule on Sept. 12 at Humboldt State, the first of three road matches in a four-day span. The first home conference match for the Broncos will be on Sept. 20 - the first day of CPP's Fall Quarter - when UC San Diego visits Kellogg Gym. Two nights later, CPP hosts 2011 NCAA Division II Championships runner-up Cal State San Bernardino.

Of the Broncos' seven regular season matches in November, five are at home. "Senior Night" on Saturday, Nov. 17, will feature CPP against Sonoma State. The Seawolves' 2011 campaign ended with a loss to the Coyotes of CSUSB in the West Region championship match. All of the Broncos' CCAA matches in 2012 will start at 7 p.m., with the exception of the Nov. 1 home contest against Cal State Monterey Bay. First serve for that match will be 5 p.m.

The Broncos' 2012 roster features nine returners, including four seniors and three juniors. Fourth-year student-athletes Kelly Bonja, Jamie Kidd, Taylr Kreutziger and Diana Lake have played in a combined 273 matches through their CPP careers.
