POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball head coach
Greg Kamansky announced Monday the hiring of
Clint Allard as an assistant coach within the program.
Having both played and coached at UC San Diego, Allard opposed conference rival CPP a total of 17 times. Now, he'll be a part of the Broncos' staff that'll challenge the Tritons at least twice a year.
"Clint comes from a top-notch institution and he's been working for a great head coach in Chris Carlson," Kamansky said. "A successful student-athlete and coach within our conference, Clint came highly recommended. We know he'll be a great fit for our program."
Allard spent the previous four seasons as a UCSD assistant coach, joining the Tritons' staff prior to the 2008-09 season after a stellar playing career from 2004-08.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Cal Poly Pomona coaching staff," Allard said. "There is an expectation to put a competitive product on the court and ultimately win games, and I am looking forward to contributing to that challenge. The Broncos' coaches always seemed to have such good chemistry and that's important when you spend so much time together. I hope to be able to make the transition as seamless as possible and bring some new energy and fire to the staff and the team."
During his time as a UCSD coach, Allard was actively involved with all aspects of coaching and his primary responsibilities include monitoring the team's academic progress, scouting, recruiting, team travel and overseeing the program's film exchange and video operations. He was also responsible for player development with the guards.
A four-year starter, Allard posted career averages of 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals in 112 games as a Triton. In 2007-08, he was named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Second Team after averaging 9.8 points and career-highs in rebounds (3.9), assists (4.6) and steals (1.2).
Allard also earned All-CCAA Tournament Team honors that season. With a victory in the conference tournament championship, UCSD advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional for the first time and went on to finish the season with an overall record of 18-12, the program's best mark at the D-II level.
One of the best players the UCSD program has ever seen, Allard's name can now be found all over the Tritons' record books. The former Archbishop Mitty High School product ranks 10th in all-time career scoring with a total of 1,150 points, third in career assists with 414 and ninth in career assist average at 3.7 per game.
In terms of Division II records at UCSD, Allard holds the all-time career mark for scoring (1,150), assists (414), assist average (3.7), steals (130), minutes played (3,378) and games started (104). He ranks second in games played (112), rebounding (387), field goals attempted (635), free throws made (299) and free throws attempted (402).
Allard graduated from UCSD in 2008 with a degree in Management Science. In 2010, he earned a Concordia master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
