POMONA, Calif. –  As the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team kicked off Friday against Cal State Monterey Bay at Kellogg Field, the visiting Otters carried quite a bit of momentum after road wins last weekend over Cal State Dominguez and Cal State L.A.

The Broncos quickly stole that momentum away with their first goal coming less than three minutes into Friday's match, which turned into a 4-0 rout for the host CPP squad.

Cindy Paez got the Broncos on the board with that score while Aneska Alino and Alison Sauve proved to be key catalysts on the next two goals for CPP. Meanwhile, the Broncos' defense held tough as junior goalkeeper Sarah Rohman collected her ninth career shutout to go along with five saves.

CPP has earned points against above-.500 teams in back-to-back games and the Broncos are now just one win behind Cal State L.A., a team holding third place in the South Division at 2-3-1.

Friday's result improves CPP's marks to 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while the Otters of CSUMB fall to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Two seniors combined to give the Broncos the 1-0 lead early in Friday's match. Angela Garcia dribbled up the left side before sending a cross into the box for Paez. After a quick move into the center of the box, Paez ripped a shot past CSUMB goalkeeper Diana Zambrano at the 2:57 mark.

In the 35th minute, it was the CPP sophomore class showing its scoring prowess. Alino dropped a quick pass back to Sauve, who drove a long shot from the right side over Zambrano's head into the upper left corner of the net for a 2-0 Broncos' edge.

The slick passing continued in the second half for CPP, which owned a 13-8 shot advantage through the 90 minutes. At the 60:29 mark, Alino struck for her third score of 2012.

Quick passing up the middle of the field by Veronica Ramos and Sauve led to a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper for Alino. The San Jose, Calif., native bent a shot into the bottom left of the net to push the Broncos' lead to 3-0.

CPP got its final score in the 84th minute as the Broncos were beneficiaries of an own goal by the Otters. CPP sophomore Nicole Killigrew sent a long free kick into the CSUMB box and an Otters' defender accidently headed the ball over the head of Zambrano and into the net. The total of four goals is the largest for the Broncos in a conference game since 2010.

CPP will now turn its attention to a 2 p.m. Sunday home match against San Francisco State. The Gators are directly above the Broncos in the South Division standings with a conference mark of 2-4.
