The Broncos improve to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while keeping pace with the conference leaders. CPP is in sole possession of fourth place as Chico State (7-1), UC San Diego (6-2) and Cal State L.A. (6-2) lead the pack.

Despite being hampered by foul trouble, J.J. Judge produced another stellar performance with 21 points as she knocked down four of her three-point attempts.

Defensively, CPP forced 25 turnovers from the Pioneers and Ashley Boggs played a key role in that effort as she contributed important stops. The senior forward from Petaluma finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Broncos fell into an early 8-3 deficit Saturday as the Pioneers' Brianna Terrance hit her first three field goal attempts to lead the East Bay's offense.

Moments later, Judge and Boggs hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Broncos a 10-7 edge. Those baskets served as a preview for what was to come as the visitors developed a shooting rhythm from long distance.

CSUEB managed to retake the lead after Meaghan Cichoke knocked down a trey at the 14:54 mark but after that moment, the visiting CPP squad dominated play the rest of the first half.

Through the next eight minutes, the Broncos put together an astounding 20-0 run as Judge went on to score 14 first-half points while the entire CPP squad produced smothering defense. The Pioneers turned the ball over 14 times in the opening 20 minutes of action Saturday. The Broncos took a 40-26 lead into halftime.

To start the second half, CSUEB elevated its rebounding intensity with the help of Marlene MacMillan and that led to the Broncos' advantage falling back into single digits. CPP also had to deal with the absence of Judge, who ran into foul trouble early in the closing period.

Rachel Hatch provided three clutch free throws while the visitors went 12-for-14 at the charity stripe as a team. As soon as Judge reentered the game, she went right back to knocking down shots.

Despite the Pioneers cutting the CPP edge dramatically in the finishing stages, Boggs provided a key rebound, steal and basket in the last minute to help the Broncos get their lead back to double digits and the result settled at a 12-point spread.

CPP will return to action Thursday with "Pack the Gym" starting at 5:30 p.m. as the Broncos host Sonoma State.
