Box Score | POMONA, Calif. – With terrific effort on both sides of the field, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team played even with 13th-ranked Cal State L.A. as the squads battled to a 0-0 draw under the lights at Kellogg Field.

Both teams got a fair share of scoring opportunities, including Broncos' freshman Luis Najera Jr. blasting a shot just wide of the post in the second overtime. That would have ended the match but instead, CPP and L.A. walk away with one point apiece in the standings.

The Broncos stand at 5-4-4 overall and 3-4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Every team above CPP in the South Division standings also played to a draw on Friday.

Through the 110 minutes of action at Kellogg Field, the Broncos finished with a slight 13-12 edge in shots. The host squad kept an impressive tempo in the match and pressed well against the Golden Eagles, a squad that is undefeated in its last eight matches.

The result marked the seventh career shutout for CPP senior goalkeeper Andrew Todd, who finished with three saves. His counterpart on the opposite side, L.A.'s Mike Beigarten, also posted three stops. Daniel Garcia Jr. starred offensively for the Broncos Friday night and kept the Golden Eagles' defenders scrambling.

Broncos' freshman Mathew Perez generated the team's first scoring chance in the opening half. His first attempt off a free kick was blocked and after the rebound came back to him, he sent an attempt just over the crossbar.

Just about six minutes into the second half, Golden Eagles' junior forward Jordan Payne dribbled toward the endline and sent a low shot through the goalmouth that rolled just to the right of the far post. Later in the second period, CPP's Daniel Asor fired a long shot that curled just outside the goal frame and out of bounds.

The first overtime period proved to be a bit chippy as four cautions were issued, including three on the Golden Eagles. Payne generated another chance for L.A. but his close-range attempt at the 92:45 mark rolled wide left. Najera's blast in the 103rd minute brought the Bronco fans to their feet but with that chance also proving fruitless, the two teams eventually landed at the 0-0 result.

CPP travels to play No. 17 UC San Diego in La Jolla with an 11:30 a.m. kickoff. The Tritons settled for a 1-1 draw with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday.
