Box Score | LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team couldn't break through for a goal against the nation's top defense Sunday as the Broncos suffered a 1-0 loss at 17th-ranked UC San Diego.
It marked the final regular season road match for CPP, a squad that'll play its four remaining games at Kellogg Field. Challenging two nationally-ranked opponents this week, the Broncos have had a tough time getting the offense going as the team has gone scoreless in the last four matches.
On Sunday at Triton Soccer Field, the Broncos trailed UCSD in shots by a small margin of 9-7 but the visitors couldn't put an attempt on target.
Junior
Fernando Pablo Quevedo got his first career start for CPP and he made three saves while allowing the game's only goal, a penalty kick at the 37:39 mark toward the end of the first half. The Tritons' Andisheh Bagheri collected that score to push his season total to a team-best six.
The Broncos' offense focused around freshman
Luis Najera Jr., who tallied four of the team's seven shots. CPP will look to reawaken its offense on Friday when the Broncos host Cal State Monterey Bay for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
The CPP defense continues to be a strong point for the squad as the Broncos allowed just one goal this week to lower the season goals against average to 0.80.
So far this season, CPP is 2-1-2 at home and 3-4-2 on the road. The Broncos' overall record stands at .500 with a 5-5-4 mark.
