Box Score | HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay has been the site of some frustrating matches for the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team and Friday wasn't any different.
The Broncos and Pioneers ended up settling for a 0-0 draw through 110 minutes of action but there were still plenty of chances, including a CSUEB penalty kick in the 17th minute.
CPP senior goalkeeper
Andrew Todd took a starring role in the match, stopping that penalty kick try from Jesus Magana and finishing with a season-high six saves.
This weekend's road matches in Hayward and Turlock mark the last regular season trip to Northern California for Todd, a native of Half Moon Bay. The Broncos' most recent trip to Cal State East Bay came in 2010 - Todd's freshman season - and the match ended in a 1-1 draw despite CPP taking 44 shots.
The shot totals were a lot smaller Friday and the Pioneers ended up leading in that category, 12-9. Offensively for the Broncos,
Daniel Garcia Jr. attempted three shots while
Luis Najera Jr. took two shots.
The Pioneers stepped up their offensive pressure in overtime. Of Todd's six saves, three of those stops came in the 20 minutes of extra time.
The CPP back line provided solid support for Todd with
Leonel Espinoza,
Justyn Peeples and
Jeremy Totays getting the start in Friday's match at that position.
The Broncos (5-2-2, 3-2-2 CCAA) will return to action Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. match at Cal State Stanislaus (3-5-1, 2-5 CCAA).
