Box Score | AZUSA, Calif. – The tough week continued for Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball Friday as the Broncos let a 15-point lead slip away in the second half while Western Oregon finished the game on a 14-0 run to capture a 70-65 victory.

Paired with the one-point defeat Tuesday at The Master's College, this marks the first back-to-back losses for CPP since midway through the 2011-12 season.

This year's non-conference schedule remains a positive though as the Broncos will get a chance to bounce back 24 hours later with a 7:30 p.m. road game at Azusa Pacific, the host of this two-day tournament called the Cougar Classic. APU is taking on Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight.

Senior guard DeRonn Scott proved to be the focal point of the CPP offense Friday against the Wolves of the GNAC as the Etiwanda native scored a career-high 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting. He also added four rebounds and four assists.

The Broncos also received welcome contributions from freshman Quentin Taylor, who put together a near-flawless shooting performance by going 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the line to tally 16 points.

As a team though, CPP turned the ball over 17 times. Eleven of those turnovers came from the starting five alone. The Wolves also shot extremely well at the free throw line, going 23-for-26 overall with a 10-for-11 effort from Marwan Sarhan.

WOU opened up an early 11-4 lead in Friday's contest behind a strong inside game from Lewis Thomas. The Broncos kept their composure though and picked up their defensive intensity, holding the Wolves scoreless between the 12:55 and 6:07 marks in the first half. The 11-0 CPP run during that span featured a pair of layups from junior Chad Haysbert.

Under two minutes to play in the half, Sarhan tossed in two-straight jumpers to help WOU pull within 31-30 and then a pair of Scott free throws sent the Broncos into the intermission with a three-point edge.

CPP established plenty of momentum through the first seven minutes of the second half, outscoring the Wolves 21-9 in that stretch. An exciting sequence in that run was when Jordan Faison grabbed a defensive rebound and then tipped it to Daniel Rodriguez, who found Taylor charging up the court for a fastbreak dunk. On the next Broncos' possession, Scott knocked down a three-pointer to push the team's lead to 14 points.

The CPP offense went silent after the 4:27 mark though with the last Bronco points coming off a Taylor trey. Sarhan kept the Wolves' offense rolling through the 14-0 run that lifted WOU to victory. The Wolves ended up knocking down their final 10 free throw attempts from the seven-minute mark onward.
