Women's Soccer Honors Seniors but Falls to Toros, 1-0

Box Score | POMONA, Calif. – Sunday's regular season finale at Kellogg Field didn't go as planned for the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team but the Broncos played hard for all 90 minutes in a tough 1-0 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

It continued a tough stretch for CPP, with Sunday's result marking the third-straight 1-0 loss for the Broncos. The three game-winning goals all came with 18 minutes or less remaining in regulation.

The hero in Sunday's game proved to be the Toros' Olivia Patterson, who created her own scoring chance and lifted a long shot into the upper left corner of the net at the 73:36 mark.

CPP ended up outshooting Dominguez Hills 19-13 as the host squad got a team-high five attempts from freshman Hailey James. One of James' shots in the second half was swatted away by Toros' goalkeeper Jennifer Ackerly just before the ball would have likely clanked off the left post.

Although Sunday turned out to be a tough final home game for the Broncos' five seniors, the program had a lot to celebrate during the group's pregame ceremony. To view video of the complete Senior Day festivities, click here.

The five seniors - Tatiana Cortes, Melissa Garcia, Kristin Mihara, Sarah Rohman and Samantha Stiles - played a key role in leading CPP to the postseason last year for the program's first playoff appearance since 2001.

About 10 minutes after the Toros got the go-ahead goal, the Broncos threatened to net the equalizer when a pass bounced up to Stiles for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. The ball caromed just a bit too quickly in the box and Ackerly pounced on it to keep the lead at 1-0.

In net for CPP on Sunday, Rohman collected six saves to match her season high. She finishes her Bronco career with 237, a total that ranks third in the program's all-time record book. Mihara played in every match during her four-year Bronco career as Sunday marked her 73rd career game.
