Merrimack
Box Score | POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team withstood a three-point barrage from Merrimack Saturday as the Broncos exhibited toughness on the boards and efficiency on offense to secure an 88-81 victory.

It marked CPP's final non-conference matchup of the regular season and the Broncos passed the test despite the Warriors (3-3) knocking down 14 of their 31 attempts from beyond the arc.

CPP improves to 4-1 overall and through all five games, the Broncos have outrebounded their opponent while also committing fewer turnovers.

Ariel Marsh played a game-high 38 minutes Saturday and scored 19 points as one of four CPP players in double figures. She also added a career-high eight assists, five rebounds and three steals while turning the ball over just twice.

Marsh went 8-for-8 at the free throw line and she wasn't the only Bronco to accomplish that feat. Fellow third-year Tyler Woods matched that effort and ended up with 19 points off the bench.

Senior J.J. Judge finished with a season-high 20 points, including a trey with 2:09 to play that put CPP ahead 76-73. Merrimack got an equalizing three from Shelby Secor on the next possession.

Just 14 seconds later, Marsh knocked down the go-ahead jumper and the Broncos didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way. Sophomore Cydnie Jones came up clutch as well, notching her second double-double performance of the season with 13 rebounds and 11 points.

Marsh and Judge helped CPP establish a 7-0 lead from the start and a Woods three-pointer late in the opening half pushed the host squad's advantage to 17 points, 32-15. The Warriors made a late run though and closed the game to 38-31 going into the break.

Merrimack continued to chip away at the margin in the second half and the teams traded lead eight times in the game. The Warriors' largest lead was three, 55-52, midway through the second half. As a team, CPP shot 24-for-29 from the line and finished the contest on a 12-5 run.

Four Merrimack players finished in double figures and Chloe Rothman secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. Ashley Lovett earned her first career start as a Bronco, totaling eight points and seven rebounds.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7, with a 5:30 p.m. home game against conference foe UC San Diego.
