Box Score | ARCATA, Calif. – With top-notch effort from a series of new Broncos, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team captured an exciting 65-61 victory at Humboldt State Saturday to move into 2014 with a three-game win streak.

The two teams threatened to go to overtime once again but CPP elevated its defensive effort down the stretch while knocking down key shots. Rancho Cucamonga native Jordan Finn scored a team-high 14 points, including a game-tying three-pointer with 6:58 to play and a free throw to make it a two-possession margin in the final seconds.

The Broncos outrebounded the Jacks, 37-28, and another junior transfer - Chad Haysbert - pulled down a team-high 10 boards. Six of those 10 came on the offensive end. The CPP bench provided great energy while contributing 32 of the team's 65 points.

"We weren't at our best tonight but I was very pleased with our effort and attitude," Broncos' head coach Greg Kamansky said. "Humboldt is a tough team and this is a tough place to play. Our bench stepped up and helped us dig in down the stretch."

With Saturday's result, CPP improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to move into a tie for third place in the league standings. This also marks the third-straight season that the Broncos have gone undefeated in the month of December.

Jordan Faison and Quentin Taylor scored 12 points apiece Saturday to join Finn in double figures. All of Taylor's points came in the first half as the Palm Springs natived provided a spark off the bench. Although going through a tough shooting night, senior DeRonn Scott added six assists to match his career best.

After the two teams went to double overtime last Saturday, the narrow margins continued this Saturday at Lumberjack Arena. The margin didn't move above six points in either direction and CPP held a 32-29 lead at halftime.

The squads traded the lead a few times in the second half and Finn tied up the tally at 50-50 with 6:58 to play in regulation. That basket started with a steal from Scott, who dished it off to Finn for the three-point attempt. The Jacks stole the advantage back two more times in the period but after Barry Bell knocked down a triple to put CPP ahead 55-54, the visitors kept the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Haysbert provided some clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch as he went 4-for-4 at the line overall. Faison also added a key basket, pushing the margin out to three on one of the Broncos' final possessions.

CPP will return to action on Jan. 3 with a road game at Cal State East Bay.
