Box Score | POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team continued its strong start to the 2013 season Thursday with an 11-6 road victory over Cal State San Bernardino in both teams' conference opener.

The Broncos' offense collected 11 hits at Fiscalini Field Thursday while also getting help from four errors committed by the Coyotes. CPP freshman Jason Padlo recorded his third multi-hit game of 2013 with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate Thursday.

The Broncos' bullpen proved to be effective in keeping the visitor's lead intact as three relievers combined for two scoreless innings.

CPP improves to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Meanwhile, CSUSB suffers its first loss of the season to drop to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

It marks the second-straight season that CPP has started its campaign with an eight-game winning streak.

The game featured plenty of momentum shifts, starting with the Broncos taking a 3-0 lead after the first two and a half innings.

Nicholas Cooksey started the visitor's second-inning rally with a leadoff walk and then he later scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Bo Walter.

Bo's brother, Donald, initiated a rally in the top of the third when he recorded a leadoff single and moved to third on a Jordan Whitman double. Walter ended up scoring on a Coyotes' error and Whitman crossed home plate on a single from Padlo to give CPP a 3-0 lead.

The Coyotes managed to score four runs in the bottom of the third, a rally that featured three different RBI singles in the infield. The host squad's lead didn't last long as CPP plated five runs in its next at-bat to put the game nearly out of reach. That fourth-inning rally was capped off with a two-run single by Whitman and a sacrifice fly from Joseph Eusebio.

Bethell turned in seven workmanlike innings and turned the game over to the bullpen with an 11-6 edge for the visitors. Bronco newcomers Andy Amaro and Cody Ponce continued their 2013 scoreless inning streak with one inning apiece to close out the CPP win.

The Broncos and Coyotes will resume their four-game series Friday with another 2 p.m. game at Fiscalini Field.
