Box Score | POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team faced a double-digit deficit in the second half Saturday against Cal State Monterey Bay but despite battling back to tie the score in the later stages, the Broncos eventually fell to the Otters by a 64-54 score.
CPP falls to the .500 mark at 11-11 overall and 9-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Broncos remain in sixth place in the conference standings, one win behind Cal State L.A. and one above San Francisco State.
Despite shooting just 33 percent Saturday, CPP turned the ball over fewer times than the Otters with a 19-14 edge in that category.
J.J. Judge, who finished with nine points and seven rebounds, didn't commit a single turnover through her 25 minutes of action.
Judge scored the first six points of the game and a
Lauren Goecke three-pointer at the 12:45 mark gave the Broncos their largest lead of the contest, 14-2.
The Otters chipped away at the lead for the remainder of the opening period and even tied the score on a couple of occasions before CPP took a 25-24 advantage into the break.
Monterey Bay's Holly Holcomb dropped in a layup for the first bucket of the second half, giving the visitors their first lead. That initiated a 13-4 run for the Otters in a stretch that the Broncos couldn't overcome in the 10-point loss.
Freshman
Cydnie Jones, who has scored in double digits in six of the last eight games, collected a team-high 10 points Saturday to go along with six rebounds.
Up next, CPP travels to take on the seventh-place Gators of SFSU (8-10 CCAA) Friday before completing its final regular season road trip against ninth-place Sonoma State (6-12) Saturday.
