The walk-off result raises the Broncos' record to 5-0 and drops the Lancers to 2-2. The two teams will resume their series Saturday with a 10 a.m. doubleheader in Riverside.

CPP freshman lefthander Max Bethell turned in another quality start as he threw seven innings while allowing six hits and one run, which came unearned. The Garden Grove native gave up just one extra-base hit to the visiting CBU squad.

Although the Lancers took an early 1-0 lead, the Broncos stormed back for five runs in the third during an inning extended by a dropped foul ball from the visitors.

CPP freshman third baseman Jason Padlo, who finished with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate Thursday, opened the bottom of the third with a single. The Broncos seized a 2-1 advantage on back-to-back hits from Magno and Donald Walter. Jordan Whitman got an extra chance at the plate after the dropped foul ball and later put down a bunt single. Later in the rally, Joseph Eusebio and Nicholas produced RBI hits to put CPP in front 5-1.

Bethell continued to cruise through the middle innings and through the last seven batters he faced, the first-year hurler didn't give up any hits.

The Lancers' offense came alive in the eighth as the visitors tied the game at 5-5. In that stretch, Luke Esquerra and Blake Moore contributed clutch hits and CBU capitalized on a CPP error to even the score.

With the temperature quickly dropping at Scolinos Field, the Broncos' offense got hot in the bottom of the ninth. Bo Walter started the rally with a leadoff single and Padlo followed with a base hit through the left side.

Faced with a two-strike count, senior catcher Nick O'Loughlin put down a sacrifice bunt to give CPP two runners in scoring position with one out. Magno stepped to the plate next and promptly knocked an 0-1 pitch just inside the leftfield line to keep the Broncos undefeated.

Freshman right-hander Cody Ponce collected his first collegiate win, throwing the final 1.2 innings and holding the Lancers hitless and scoreless.
