Box Score | SAN FRANCISCO - Behind a spectacular outing from freshman Cody Ponce and another quick start from the offense, the Cal Poly Pomona rolled to an 11-1 win Sunday at SF State.

The victory completes a 3-1 Broncos' series win, the first for the team in conference play this season.

CPP improves to 17-10 overall and 10-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Broncos are in a three-way tie for sixth place with half of the conference schedule completed.

Ponce, a righthander out of Upland, entered the week as on one of the West Region leaders in saves with five. The Broncos' coaching staff called on him for his first career start Sunday and he responded extremely well, throwing seven scoreless innings and striking out eight. The result improved Ponce's record to 3-0 and lowered his earned run average to 1.71.

The CPP offense gave Ponce plenty of run support as the Broncos scored first for the eighth-consecutive game. CPP opened the top of the first with four-straight singles, including RBI hits by Jordan Whitman and Donald Walter.

In the next at-bat, Chris Carlson hammered a 2-2 pitch over the rightfield fence for his second homer of the season. It capped off the Broncos' four-run rally in the first and it proved to be one of just two extra-base hits for CPP while the team collected 11 singles.

Junior outfielder Joseph Eusebio tallied two hits Sunday to record his fourth-straight mult-hit game. The Broncos' offense forced the Gators to make a pitching change after just one-third of an inning and CPP tagged the host bullpen for seven more runs before the 11-1 victory was complete.

The Broncos return to action Monday, March 25, to start a two-game road set at Grand Canyon, a member of the Pacific West Conference.
