Tuesday's victory raises the Broncos' overall record to 25-2, marking the third time in head coach
Greg Kamansky's tenure that CPP has reached the 25-win mark. Earlier on Tuesday, Kamansky was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
The Kellogg Gym fans were also in playoff mode with students getting plenty loud in the 14-point win over Sonoma. With a crowd of 873 Tuesday, the Broncos' fans have set a program record for average attendance through the 2012-13 season. Through the 14 home dates so far this year, an average of 1,009 fans have been in attendance.
Mitchel Anderson, announced as the CCAA Most Valuable Player today, collected 23 points and 10 rebounds against the Seawolves to record his 11th-career double double.
Anderson scored the first points of the game, knocking down a three-pointer on the opening possession. He finished with four three-pointers on the night, becoming the school's all-time leader in threes with 185 currently. Playing in his 116th game as a Bronco, Anderson's final field goal of the night turned out to be No. 500 in his illustrious career.
The Seawolves managed to put together a 13-0 run behind the stellar play of Justin Herold as the visitors took a 17-11 lead at the 11:21 mark. The Broncos bounced back with
Mohamed Fall driving to the hoop, sinking a layup and drawing a foul. He missed the layup but
Barry Bell was there for the offensive rebound and Anderson tossed in another triple on the same possession to suddenly make it a one-point game.
A few minutes later, CPP took the lead for good thanks to an old-school three-point play from Anderson off of a steal and fastbreak layup. Sophomore guard
Daniel Rodriguez provided clutch contributions late in the first half, putting together a 10-0 run as he was the only player on either team to score in that stretch. His play turned a 23-22 lead into a 33-22 gap.
The Broncos kept the lead in double digits through the entire second half as they outshot the Seawolves 51.7 percent to 42.
Terrence Drisdom and Bell dished out five assists apiece while
DeRonn Scott finished with 14 points to join Anderson and Rodriguez in double figures.
