Box Score | TURLOCK, Calif. - Entering this week, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team trailed the No. 4 spot in the conference standings by a winning percentage margin of .142. With a four-game sweep of Cal State Stanislaus, the Broncos have closed the gap to .047.

Now with 12 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season games remaining for CPP, the team's chase for a playoff spot will continue Friday as the Broncos will host first-place Chico State for a four-game series. First pitch Friday - also a "Pack the Stands" event for fun giveaways - is set for 12 p.m. At 22-15 overall and 15-13 in league action, CPP is currently in sixth place.

The visiting Wildcats, defending CCAA and West Region champs, are ranked No. 5 in the nation and own a 19-4 conference record while carrying a 12-game winning streak. Before the Broncos resume CCAA play against Chico, CPP will host Azusa Pacific on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.

Through the Broncos' four wins over Cal State Stanislaus this past weekend, CPP outscored the Warriors 36-9. In Sunday's 8-4 win, Broncos' freshman right-hander Cody Ponce tossed 8.2 impressive innings and allowed just two runs. On Saturday, Ponce closed out CPP's 7-3 in game one of the doubleheader to earn his sixth save of 2013 while matching the school's single-season record for that statistic.

Sunday's game started out as a tremendous pitching duel between Ponce and Stanislaus' Rafael Vasquez as the Warriors held a 1-0 advantage heading into the sixth inning. That's when the Broncos staged a two-out, two-run rally to take their first lead of the contest. Jordan Whitman got it going with a single to center and two batters later, Jason Padlo knocked a two-RBI single to left to bring in Whitman and Donald Walter.

The CPP offense put five runs on the board in the seventh as the visitors were helped along with walks and wild pitches thrown by the Warriors. In that inning, a series of one-run singles came from Bo Walter, Donald Walter and Chris Carlson.

Leading the Broncos' attack through the four wins in Turlock were Whitman, who went 9-for-17 with four runs batted in, and Padlo, who contributed eight hits in 16 at-bats while adding four RBI.
