WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Chris Carlson of the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the week of April 29 through May 5, conference officials announced Monday.
A junior outfielder from Chino Hills, Carlson helped guide the Broncos to a series split with Cal State East Bay to end the 2013 season. The Pioneers were in playoff contention until Saturday afternoon but CPP and East Bay played an exciting four-game set with each game being decided by one run.
Carlson went 9-for-13 at the plate for a .692 batting average. He scored two runs and added two runs batted in while knocking a double and a homerun. Carlson also collected two walks to raise his weekly on-base percentage to .733.
Recording at least one hit in each of the Broncos' final six games, Carlson went 12-for-20 in that span. In the process, he raised his season batting average from .288 to .322. Carlson is the second CPP player to earn the conference's weekly honor as
Jordan Whitman received the accolade in early March.
