Cal Poly Pomona Dealt 3-0 Defeat Saturday in Seaside

Box Score | SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss Saturday at Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Broncos' offense was held to a hitting percentage of .086 through the three sets as redshirt freshman Hannah Harrer provided a team-best nine kills.

Having been dealt its third-straight defeat, CPP falls to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The host Otters' squad evens is conference record at 2-2.

Julia Ashen, who entered the week fourth nationally in kills, collected a match-high kill total of 18 as the Otters posted a .267 attack percentage. CSUMB also had four players record at least 10 digs each to lead the defensive effort.

Sophomore Zoe Herrera starred defensively for the Broncos as she recorded a career-high 18 digs. Teammates Katie Colin and Nicoletta Stork added 10 digs apiece.

The Otters never trailed in the opening set but CPP trimmed the lead to 16-14 after forcing an attack error from the host squad. CSUMB put together a 6-0 run en route to a 25-17 victory in that first frame.

CPP pulled out to a 14-8 lead in the second set with Lauren Jones capping that run off with a service ace. The Otters bounced back with a 7-0 run and ended up securing another 25-17 result in that set.

The momentum carried over into the third frame, when CSUMB cruised to a 7-2 edge and finished with a 25-14 result in that final set.

The Broncos will return to action on Thursday as they'll host UC San Diego at 7 p.m. on "Pack the Gym" night at Kellogg Gym. It'll also be the annual "Dig for the Cure" match and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The visiting Tritons entered this week as the 10th-ranked team nationally and they hold a 3-2 record in CCAA play.
