Box Score | POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team is feeling right at home at Kellogg Field.

The Broncos put together another offensive showcase on Sunday, cruising to a 4-1 win over Humboldt State. Senior Brandon Cortez tallied another two goals, bringing his week's total to four.

CPP came close to notching a shutout but the visiting Jacks' squad converted on a penalty kick in the match's final minute.

Paired with a 3-1 victory Friday against Sonoma State, the Broncos ended up outscoring their opponents 7-2 this weekend at Kellogg Field.

"This week was a lot of fun for our student-athletes and the campus community," head coach Yossi Raz said. "But we are still not where we need to be in fulfilling our potential. We need to get better individually and collectively."

CPP improves to 5-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The top-tier teams of the South Division continue to pick up wins and just three points separate first-place Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego from the fifth-place Broncos.

CPP's clinic on offense Sunday started with tremendous passing, which was certainly demonstrated on the first goal in the 35th minute. Michael Torres and Daniel Asor combined to give Daniel Garcia Jr. the ball in space on the right side. From there, Garcia made a quick dribble forward and lined a hard shot to the right of Jacks' goalkeeper Ryan Ades.

The score remained 1-0 into the second half, which featured three Bronco scores in a span of about 13 minutes. CPP pushed its edge to 2-0 when Garcia flicked a pass to Cortez, who backed away from his defender and lifted a bending shot into the upper left corner of the net at the 64:54 mark.

Exactly 50 seconds later, the Broncos found the back of the net again. Passes from Justyn Peeples and Abiel Coronado led to an open run at the box for Jesus Mitre. The senior forward didn't waste any time and blasted a hard shot to the lower left corner of the net.

Asor put his playmaking ability on display once again in the 79th minute, delivering a sharp pass to Cortez. Just inside the top of the 18-yard box, Cortez fired a shot past Ades to give CPP a commanding 4-0 lead. Sunday's two assists for Asor were his first career points with CPP. With another two goals today, Cortez has raised his career total to eight.

A sharp challenge in the box by a Broncos' defender at the 89:03 mark led to a Jacks' penalty kick, which Zach Hammond converted to bring the final score to 4-1.

Sunday's game involved what now are the CCAA's top three goal scorers. Hammond leads the league with six scores while Cortez ranks second with five and Najera follows with four goals of his own.

After picking up two wins this week at Kellogg Field, CPP will return to the road for matches at Cal State East Bay and Cal State Stanislaus next weekend.
