Box Score | TUCSON, Ariz. - On the grand stage of the Pac-12 Network taking on national contender Arizona, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team did more than impress.
The Broncos stunned the McKale Center crowd in the opening half, holding a seven-point lead with less than six minutes left in that first period. Although the No. 2-ranked Wildcats prevailed, 67-51, CPP certainly finished this week's Pac-12 road trip with exceptional results.
Junior forward
Jordan Faison showcased his adept shooting touch, collecting 21 points on 8-for-16 effort from the field. As a team, the Broncos forced 12 turnovers while committing 15.
Toward the end of the first half, the Pac-12 Network announcers Tom Maclean and Kevin Calabro mentioned that CPP's "offense isn't a fluke and its defense is as good as advertised." Once the game ended, the two commentators closed out with: "The Broncos are a forced to be reckoned with at the D-II level this year."

Francois Tchoyi added a layup in the next minute. Those two early scores forced a 30-second timeout from the Wildcats.
With Brandon Ashley working underneath in the paint, his layup at the 14:09 gave Arizona its first lead of the contest.
After a running jumper from
Quentin Taylor allowed CPP to retake a 7-6 edge, a one-and-one opportunity by Dusan Ristic missed and Faison controlled a tough rebound.
Further into the first half, Faison picked it up offensively and scored six-consecutive points to extend the Broncos' run to 7-0 and the lead to 16-10.
Arizona rallied for an 11-0 run of its own, including a Stanley Johnson dunk to tie the score at 19-19. The Wildcats limited the Broncos to zero points in the final 5:42 of the opening half.
The hustle points showed up for CPP though, including
Jordan Finn wrestling a loose ball toward halfcourt and wisely calling a timeout. Later in the opening period,
Daniel Rodriguez forced a jump ball on the defensive end. A few minutes after in help defense, the 6-foot-1 Rodriguez raced over to strip the basketball from Arizona 7-footer Kaleb Tarczewski.
