POMONA, Calif. - As 2014 winds to a close, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball sets its sights on the New Year and the next game. That next contest will be held in Kellogg Gym at 5:30 p.m. on Friday against the Chico State Wildcats.
Then on Saturday as conference play continues, Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics will be honoring the 1985 National Championship team with a 30-year reunion celebration.
The 2014-15 Broncos hold a 5-3 overall tally heading into Friday's game, with a 3-1 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Chico has amassed a 4-4 record on the year and has registered a 1-3 conference tally.
With CPP's last contest being held on Dec. 21, the Broncos will have had a solid week and a half off to rest and prepare for the upcoming CCAA challenge.
The last time the two teams met was in the West Region tournament this past season and the Broncos walked away with an 89-80 victory over Chico. In both regular season matchups of 2013-14, the Wildcats bested CPP.
In the all-time series, Chico holds a mere two-game advantage, winning 23 to the Broncos' 21.
Senior
Jada Blackwell has dominated the CCAA as she leads the points per game category with 19.8 per contest. She leads the Broncos with 34 free throws and 57 baskets from the field.
Fellow senior
Ariel Marsh is second on CPP's squad with 15.5 average points per game. Marsh holds third place in the conference with 20 buckets from beyond the arc.
Leading with 59 boards and a 61.9 shooting percentage,
Ashley Lovett is both a solid defensive and offensive threat.
Lauren Goecke has secured 35 assists to place her at the helm of that category for CPP.
After Friday's contest, CPP will play the first game of the doubleheader the next day with a 5:30 p.m. start against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors.
The Warriors enter the weekend with three wins and five losses to their season, complete with a 1-3 mark in the conference.
CSUS will play the UC San Diego Tritons on Friday before heading the Kellogg Gym on Saturday.
