Box Score | ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Despite trailing by five points at halftime Friday, the 25th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team elevated its defensive effort down the stretch to capture a 58-47 victory at Sonoma State.

DeRonn Scott's jump shots kept the game close for the Broncos early on and then a great second-half team performance on both ends of the floor helped CPP pull away from the Seawolves.

The Broncos remain undefeated on the road through conference play and with Friday's result, CPP's marks move to 17-4 overall and 15-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). There is still a tie atop the league standings with Cal State San Bernardino holding a matching 15-2 mark.

With five regular season games remaining, third-place Chico State continues to occupy third place at 12-5. The top two teams will earn a first-round bye in the CCAA Championships.

Scott finished Friday's road game with 22 points, 14 of which came in the first half. He also added a team-high six rebounds while Jordan Faison joined him in double figures for scoring with 13 points.

Sophomore guard Barry Bell, an Oakland native, contributed relentless effort offensively and defensively. Bell collected six assists to match his season best. Fellow second-year student-athlete Francois Tchoyi brought energy off the bench, grabbing five boards and registering two blocks.

Aside from Scott, the Broncos' offense came out a bit sluggish in the first half. With a Justin Herold dunk at the 9:32 mark, the Seawolves captured their largest lead of the game at 18-11.

CPP chipped away to make it a one-point margin on a few different occasions but an SSU three-pointer from Mike Harris with three seconds left in the half gave the Seawolves a 27-22 edge heading into the break. Of the Broncos' nine first-half field goals, seven were from Scott.

Just eight seconds into the second half, Chad Haysbert dropped in a layup off a Bell assist and that started an astounding 19-3 run for the Broncos. Six different CPP players contributed to the scoring in that stretch, which featured a Haysbert dunk and then a Jordan Finn triple to cap it off.

That run left the Broncos with a 41-30 lead and the margin didn't fall below seven points the rest of the way. CPP will look to continue its momentum Saturday as it'll travel to take on San Francisco State at 7:30 p.m. The Gators cruised to a 79-48 win over Humboldt State Friday.
