SAN DIEGO -Â The Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team demonstrated its versatility Friday and Saturday at the San Diego Aztec Invitational as the Broncos excelled at a wide range of events.
Justin Ellerbee captured first place in the pole vault Saturday, posting a height of 16-2.75. In taking first, Ellerbee topped Division I competitors from Oregon and UC Riverside.
Freshman
Brandon Washington showed improvement in the 110-meter hurdles Friday, crossing the line in 15.63 to set a new season best. Another top 2014 mark came from sophomore
Michale Hamlin, who posted a 1:56.36 time in the 800-meter run.
CPP produced a series of third-place finishes, including
Austin Allen's 15-9.75 height in the pole vault. Senior
Brian Luc took third in the javelin, recording a distance of 165-3.
Two Broncos put together a strong performance in the 1,500-meter event as
Garrett Pankratz placed third at 4:02.12 while
Brandon Haugen followed closely behind in fourth at 4:02.84.
The Broncos will return to action Friday in La Jolla at the prestigious Cal-Nevada Championships.
